Weekend Events Guide: September 18th Edition

Welcome to the weekend! If you're not heading to NYC 's Feast of San Gennaro as it wraps up this weekend, have no fear- there are plenty of things to do in and around Garden City. Enjoy the weekend!



Friday- If you're a fan of American Idol's Season 8 winner, Kris Allen, you can see him perform live at Adelphi's Westermann Stage in Concert Hall. Click here to purchase tickets, but don't wait! 7:30pm. 

Friday- Head to Seventh St. for the summer's last Friday Night Promenade. 6pm-10pm. Enjoy live music by Firestone, face painters, balloon artists and more. Tonight's theme is Rock of Ages. 

Saturday- It's that time of year again! St Anne's Spirit Day takes place from 1pm-10pm. Enjoy food, live music, DJ, dancing, games, rides, raffles, plant sale, crafts, respite games, sweet shoppe and more. Outdoor mass will be held at 5pm. All are welcome to come and enjoy this fun-filled day and night! 35 Dartmouth St, Garden City. 

Saturday- Stop by the 20th Annual New Hyde Park Street Fair and enjoy the petting zoo, craft vendors, children's rides, food vendors and much more. Show your support for village merchants and restaurants. 10am-4:30pm. Jericho Tpke from New Hyde Park Road to Covert Ave. 

Saturday and Sunday- Head to a traditional County Fair! The Queens County Fair runs Saturday and Sunday from 11am-6pm. There will be blue ribbon competition for livestock, produce, arts and crafts, and more. What's a county fair without a pie eating contest, corn husking contest, Lumberjack shows, pig racing, hayrides, carnival rides and a corn maze? As for music, there will be an Irish band performing on Saturday and a German band on Sunday. Don't miss all the action! 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park. Cost: $9, adults, $5 children 12 and under. 

Saturday- Free craft for kids at Lakeshore Learning Store. Ages 3 and up. 2079 Hillside Ave, New Hyde Park. 11am-3pm.

Saturday and Sunday- Ready for some cider? You know Fall has officially begun when Hicks begins hosting their annual Fall Festival! Walk through Otto the Ghost's animated story (runs from 9am-6pm), visit with the animals, take a hayride, pick up a few pumpkins and apples or maybe even a fresh baked apple pie. Opens at 9am. Admission: free. 100 Jericho Tpke, Westbury. 

Sunday- Celebrate Italian culture this weekend! Hofstra's Italian Festival takes place on Sunday. Enjoy crafts, food, live entertainment, children's activities and much more! The talk of the festival this year is the performance scheduled to be given by Bobby Valli (younger brother of Frankie Valli). He will perform Four Seasons favorites and more. His show will take place on the main stage from 1pm-2pm. Cost $6, seniors $5, kids under 12: free. Festival hours: 11am-5pm. Location: Hofstra's South Campus.

Sunday- The Franklin Square Street Fair promises a fun day for the whole family. There will be a giant craft mall, a car show, children's rides, food and live music! This event takes place on Franklin Ave from Hempstead Tpke to Scherer Blvd. 10am-5pm. 

Sunday- If you're feeling like doing the polka, head to Plattduetsche Park for Ompahfest. Bands straight from Germany will be performing, as well as the Polka Brothers, Alex Meixner, Fritz's Polka Band and many more. Games, raffles and vendors too! 11am-10pm. 1132 Hempstead Tpke, Franklin Square. $10 donation suggested.
